You can take THAT to the bank!

Hello wonderful people!

Seeing as how this is my first blog post - I wasn't really sure how to start it out. I first thought of writing a somewhat obligatory "hi my name is Lindzi, and this is who I am" type of post so you, as a reader, could know who it is exactly that you're reading about! However...I decided to forgo that idea. Why? I'm glad you asked... ;) I naturally would assume that if you're reading this, then you most likely already know me (which would result in quite the let-down, reading a whole first blog post that drags on about my life that you're fully aware and informed of). On the flip side, if my assumption is false, and you in fact do not know me but just so happened to stumbled upon this blog, my hope is that you will be able to "get to know me" (in a sense) as I share all about the different seasons of my life. :)

Last year, I felt like the Lord put it on my heart to start a blog. Somewhere to jot down my thoughts, revelations, memories, etc. Not-so-long story even shorter....I allowed myself to get "too busy" and never did it. With the new year upon us, I've decided to revisit some old things as well as start new things. This blog being one of my "things" to revisit.

Now for what I decided to write about this evening; God's promises!

My husband, Hayden, and I made the decision this year to do the "Eat this Book: One Year Bible with Daily Psalm" reading plan on our You Version Bible App. I have never read the Bible from start to finish and since we started this reading plan, I quickly have seen the Bible in a whole new light. As we have been reading in Genesis about the lives of Abraham and his descendants (Isaac, Esau, and Jacob), my eyes have been opened to a valuable piece of each of these stories. They not only knew the promises of God (because they listened when He spoke) but they remembered those promises and held God to them!

The most recent example I have read of this is found in Genesis 32:9. This is Jacob's response after he is informed that his older brother, Esau, who was betrayed by Jacob many years prior to this occasion, was on his way to meet Jacob with an army of 400 men. If this was me, knowing what I did to my brother...I'd be scared too! But lets read:

9 Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my grandfather Abraham, and God of my father, Isaac—O Lord, you told me, ‘Return to your own land and to your relatives.’ And you promised me, ‘I will treat you kindly.’ 10 I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!11 O Lord, please rescue me from the hand of my brother, Esau. I am afraid that he is coming to attack me, along with my wives and children.12 But you promised me, ‘I will surely treat you kindly, and I will multiply your descendants until they become as numerous as the sands along the seashore—too many to count.’”

I got two things out of this story. One, Jacob remembered God's promises. Two, Jacob took God at His word and activated His promises by speaking/asking God to do exactly what He promised. After reading this passage, it struck me as simple. Know God's word and activate it. I feel like often times we are pretty good at knowing God's word and spending time with Him, but so few times do we see people actually activating it. As I thought more about it, I then asked myself, 'Why is it that often times we don't activate God's word?' My opinion..? We sometimes forget His promises. So how do we activate something we have forgotten about?! You don't.

Now, would you like to know what happens after Jacob prays this..? Jacob finds insane favor with his brother, Esau. Esau greeted him as if nothing happened. Hello! God kept His promises to Jacob and he was treated kindly. All of this to say that through reading this passage, not only did God prove to Jacob that He was true to His word, but He proved to me that His word truly never fails. He always holds up His end of the bargain. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

As we read tonight, I was left with this scripture that I will now leave with you as encouragement and confirmation. I hope this resonates in your heart as it has in mine.

Psalm 12:6 "The Lord's promises are always pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over."

Continue to take God at His word! Trust that He is always good on His promises and you will see Him come through on your behalf!

Thanks for reading...be blessed!

I've Got That Favor

Today marked the 1st day & beginning of BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!  (Ok, let's be real...since I was born on the 5th....birthday "month" only lasts 5 days..haha) & I've already been so blessed! This morning, a friend blessed me with an hour long massage. Then shortly after coming home, Hayden brought a package in with the mail, from my sweet neighbor & friend. Inside, I found a pair of LuLaRoe leggings I've been wanting and have had my eye on for months - just wasn't at a place, financially, to indulge! "Gifts" is one of my dominant love languages. I love both giving & receiving gifts. I used to feel weird and uncomfortable about the receiving part of that. As I've gotten older, I've realized that often times gifts can communicate things on a deeper level than materialism. Gifts, to me, are an outward expression of something happening inwardly. When someone gives me a gift, whether it was purchased, hand-made, or something so simple ...

'Cuz It's Now Or Never

Just over a week ago, I was on the beach, with a wonderful group of ladies from our church, wrapping up an incredible weekend in Long Beach for the Propel women's conference. As we sat under the warm sun, sand in between our toes, and the ocean breeze blowing through our hair, we began discussing what name(s) other's have labeled us with that we've unintentionally bought into then began comparing them to the name(s) the Lord calls us that - we need to begin walking in and owning for ourselves. I can't exactly pinpoint what moment it began, but over that weekend I realized at some point this summer, I had bought into an opposing narrative about my worth. Sure, I knew God will always lavish His time, resources, and love on me, but I didn't feel worthy of receiving that from people (even though most of the time that's the exact vessel God uses to love on me). I bought into the lies that I'm not good enough, smart enough, disciplined enough, old enough, educated...
